Case study: Bilateral dorsal foot wounds

68-year-old female

History

Diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, peripheral artery disease with prior endovascular intervention, toe amputation for osteomyelitis

Foot wounds closed completely in 18 weeks with SANTYL◊ Ointment, sharp debridement and moist gauze dressings*

Wound presentation

  • Wound measurements: L: 5.0cm, x 3.0cm x 0.1cm R: 3.5cm x 2.5cm x 0.1cm
  • Mild peri-wound erythema
  • Fibrinous dry slough present on both wounds

Treatment

  • Wounds sharp debrided, started on silver dressings
  • SANTYL Ointment debridement daily with instructions to start once delivered (and discontinue silver dressing)
  • Patient had a follow up seven days later where her wounds measured 4.0cm x 2.0cm x 0.1cm (left foot) and 2.2cm x 1.8cm x 0.1cm (right foot)
  • The wound was sharp debrided and SANTYL Ointment was continued with non-adherent moist gauze dressings

  • Sharp debridement
  • Continued SANTYL Ointment for one more week then back to silver collagen and gauze dressings

  • Wound measurements: L: closed R: 0.5cm x 0.2cm x 0.1cm
  • No sharp debridement needed
  • Continued silver collagen and gauze dressings to right foot wound

  • Wound Measurements: L: closed R: 0.1cm x 0.1cm x 0.1cm
  • Continued silver collagen and gauze dressing to right foot
  • Wound on right closed on week 18
